MEDATLAS 2002 : Mediterranean and Black sea database of temperature, salinity and bio-chemical parameters - Climatological
ATLAS
Data base and climatological atlas produced by the MEDAR Group (25 partners) in the framework of the MEDAR/MEDATLAS II European
project (MAS3-CT98-0174 &ERBIC20-CT98-0103).
This publication contains the most comprehensive data set currently available for the Mediterranean and the Black seas for
the following parameters : temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, silicate, ammonium, alkalinity,
pH, chlorophyll, hydrogen sulphide, total nitrogen, total phosphorus. All the parameters have been visually and automatically
checked for quality according to a common protocol based on the international IOC, ICES and MAST recommendations.
The CD-Roms also provide a climatological atlas calculated by using the variational inverse method. Numerical gridded data,
maps, vertical sections and movies are delivered for the following climatologies : annual, seasonal and monthly for temperature,
salinity and dissolved oxygen ; annual and seasonal for silicate, phosphate and hydrogen sulphide (Black Sea only); annual
for nitrate, nitrite, pH, ammonium, alkalinity and chlorophyll.

Mater database
1996-1999
MTPII-MATER 1996-1999 (Mass transfer and ecosystem response) project database includes information and data collected during
the largest regional integrated project of the European MAST 3 (MArine Science and Technology) framework programme. The 108
project sea cruises (about 1,000 days of work at sea), 3,700 stations, 130 time series, as well as the equipment used are
described. All the multidisciplinary data collected and validated by some fifty laboratories are available in a unique Medatlas
format. This high-quality database is a major tool for present and future scientific and technical programmes in the Mediterranean.
Thanks to extraction and display software tools included in the CD Rom, the database can also be used by non-specialists,
teachers and students.

Géodrisk
Software to assess risks related to dumping of dredge spoil
from maritime harbours
To facilitate the assessment of ecological risks from sediments dredged in harbours, IFREMER and the inter-ministerial group
GEODE undertook the development of decision-making software called GEODISK. It is based on the results of the chemical analyses
recommended in the inter-ministerial order dated 14 June 2000. The GEODRISK tool enables the differentiation of dredged sediments,
according to their contamination level and their potential and measured toxicity, thus providing decision-making assistance
for managers.
Beginning with a simplified method based on the regulatory recommendations, the user can customize his assessment, by taking
a larger number of contaminants into account or increasing the number of toxicity tests.
The CD-ROM contains the decision making software, the application guide, the approach proposed for risk analysis and documents
in the appendices, including protocols for toxicity tests, regulations and appropriate guidelines.

PhytoQuiz 1
PhytoQuiz 1 is the first of two basic CD-ROM available in
French or English versions based self-training suitable for phytoplankton
observers : technicians, shellfish-farmers, students. Designed as an inter-active and illustrated video-game, it aims to improve
the user's knowledge on phytoplankton through a wide panel of documents (microphotographies, drawings, videos) and a self-training
based method.
PhytoQuiz 1 includes French (and Mediterranean as well) marine organisms with a flagellated stage in their life cycle. It
is currently available with a catalogue of 312 microphotographies.
