ERG AquaDEB

The European Research Group AquaDEB brought together the skills and expertise of targeted research teams at the Universities of Brest, Caen, Nantes, the IRD (French Research Institute for Development) and IFREMER (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea), the NIOZ (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research), the IMARES (Institute for Marine Resources and Ecosystem Studies) Wageningen and the Department of Theoretical Biology, Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The INRA (French National Institute for Agricultral Research), the IMR (Institute of Marine Research, Bergen), the UiB (University of Bergen), the IST (Instituto superior tecnico, Lisboa), the University of Mediterranea and BIO-LITTORAL as external partners also contribute to AquaDEB.

Working within a common theoretical framework for
quantitative bioenergetics, those teams joined in a research group to analyse the physiological flexibility of aquatic animals by using a generic dynamic energy budget model. Links with ecological and evolutionary processes will be established.

The ERG AquaDEB has been created for
4 years (2007-2010), with a midterm scientific evaluation. In 2009, the mid-term results of AquaDEB have been published in a special issue of Journal of Sea Research (Oct. 2009, vol. 62, issues 2-3). The final results of AquaDEB are going to appear in another special issue of Journal of Sea Research (vol. 66 issue 4) in late 2011. In between, some results were published in a theme issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B (vol. 365, 2010).
