A postdoc position is opened at Ifremer on the following topic: Modeling bioaccumulation of organic chemicals in the anchovy of the Gulf of Lion. The postdoctoral proposal is part of COSTAS, a french project coordinated by Ifremer which started in January 2010 and which deals with the contamination of trophic chains in the Gulf of Lion (Mediterranean sea). The proposal aims at assessing the transfer of PCBs to anchovy, reconstructing the measured concentrations in the trophic chain (phytoplankton, zooplankton, anchovy) and assessing their sensitivity to environmental variability. The objectives will be achieved by combining modelling tools of trophic chain (ECO3M), ecophysiology of the anchovy based on DEB theory (Kooijman, 2000) completed by a bioaccumulation module. The work will be facilitated by some recent applications of DEB theory : simulation of anchovy growth and reproduction in the Gulf of Biscaye using 30 years of environmental data, estimation of bioaccumulation of PCBs in the hake of Gulf of Lion (GoL) and sole. The workplan is based on several tasks : 1) adapt the DEB/Bioaccumulation model to GoL anchovy, 2) collect environmental, growth and contamination data available in Gol and build datasets to 3) run and test simulations of growth and bioaccumulation under various scenarios, and assess transfer of contaminants to the anchovy, 4) couple anchovy and simplified trophic chain models using ECO3M tool developed in COSTAS project. Another important task will be to submit scientific papers before the end of the postdoc fellowship.

Postdoctoral positions are contracted for a duration of 12 months, possibly renewable for a period of 6 months. The annual gross salary (before taxes) is around 31680 Euros, representing a monthly salary of 2640 Euros (the amount in 2009). Interested applicants should send :
