	The Kick Off meeting was held in Villefranche-sur-mer on the 10th and 11th of April 2003.
	June 10 2003 - Brest : Sampling of the cores collected during previous Ifremer campaigns (BlaSON 1 and 2)
	December 2003 - ASSEMBLAGE1 cruise onboard "Le MArion Dufresne 2" pre-programmed for May 2004
	March 2004, 23 to 24 - First year meeting in Paris (Issy les Moulineaux) and cruise preparation

Overall Objectives

Gathering, combining, re-interpreting, integrating and making available all the existing oceanographic, morpho-bathymetric, seismic-stratigraphic, sedimentological, and palaeo-environmental data already acquired in the area.

Carrying out a new, extensive and complex marine research programme using the most modern scientific equipment and technology and the highest expertise by unifying the efforts of scientists from Western Europe and Central-Eastern Europe.

Questions to be answered

What are the history of and the factors controlling the connection between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea?

What do we know about the architecture and growth pattern of the sedimentary systems within the North-western Black Sea, including the Danube Prodelta and the Danube and Dniepr-Dniestr deep-sea fans?

What are the sedimentary records of the past global changes concerning the climate, the structure and functioning of different ecosystems and sea-level variation

Where are the gas-hydrates and seeps and can we give a primary economic evaluation.

To answer to these objectives

ASSEMBLAGE is structured in:

10 workpackages which will produce:

26 deliverables, including 3 major reports, and all available data will be assembled and integrated.

What for?

	Development of new methods of assessment of modern and past sedimentary environment studies,
	Unprecedented integration of oceanographic, sedimentological and geophysical data sets,
	Substantiation of the controversial interpretation of the Black Sea flooding event 7,150 years ago,
	Innovative applications of well tested methods used in other fields of marine research.
