XRF Core Scanner

Core Scanner is designed for rapid and non-destructive determination of the chemical composition of marine bottom sediments onboard ships and at laboratories ashore. Marine bottom sediments are often sampled by means of box-cores, gravity cores, piston-cores and bore-cores, and collected in plastic tubes that are subsequently split in the length. The XRF measurements are carried out on split cores. As an example, the XRF Core Scanner is able, to perform a complete analysis from Al to Fe of one meter long core with a sample resolution of 1 cm within 40 minutes. The Scanner XRF (fluorescence X) allows the fast and non-destructive determination of the elementary chemical composition of sediments and rocks. It supplies a semi-quantitative analysis continues it, in a minimum step of 1 mm. The measures are directly realized on the surface of the sediment core or rock, no taking and no preliminary preparation is necessary. The Scanner XRF is capable of executing in 40 minutes a chemical analysis of the Aluminium up to the Iron along a core of a metre with a resolution of 1 cm sampling. The scanner is installed in a container embarquable, to be used during campaigns in the sea, aboard the oceanographic ships.
