"Cartography and Data processing" unit takes in charge the
seafloor mapping activity of Ifremer-Marine Geosciences Department.
Seafloor mapping furnishes one of the major information needed for all
oceanographic projects.
Main products
3 types of map are producted:
bathymetry and relief maps,
based on processing of multibeam echosounder,
acoustic image of the
seafloor, based on processing of acoustic level of seabed depending
mainly of sediment features,
morphological and geological maps,
based on data interpretation.

Main projects of last year
The group has been involved in mapping project of EEZ:
french, New Caledonian and French Polynesia.
More recently, maps have been published on oceanic regions
as Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, Gulf of Lion, Northern
Atlantic and Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
A project of cartography of French continental shelf is
also running: some results are the editions of sedimentary maps on site
like Antilles, Nord-Pas de Calais, bay of St Brieuc...
All mapping project are running in strong collaboration with research
programs of Marine Geosciences Department.
