Technological developments (ships, submersiblesand underwater vehicles, instrumentation, software, processes...) are essential elements for oceanography progress.

Ifremer manages technological developments   according to three complementary axes :

  • "upstream technological developments " aiming mainly  transfering and adapting technological progress external to the activities in the maritime field: new sensors, information and communication technologies, robotics, data management tools.

  • "technological developments related to search and monitoring missions "; these developments will concern as well the fleet and underwater vehicles as the instruments for in situ observation, management and processing of data software.

  • "technological developments necessary for the durable exploitation of the ocean resources in partnership with the socio-economic world", which will relate mainly to the gears and technics of selective fishing, the tools for the oil offshore activities, and the tools for the public interest monitoring in halieutics or on the coastal area.
