Produced in 1995 by K. Juniper, J. Sarrazin, C. White and the audio-visual department of UQAM., this scientific documentary is presenting the fascinating world of hydrothermal vents, of the fauna colonizing high-temperature sulfide structures as well as the research done in deep sea environments. Silver medals (science and technology) at the Montreal 1996 Corpo-Vision Festival, honorable mention (education) at the 1996 International Columbus film and video festival. Selected for competition at the 1996 Montreal International scientific film festival as well as for the Palaiseau (France) scientific film festival.

The French oceanographic cruise PHARE dedicated to the integrated study of biogeochemical interactions in extreme environmental conditions. This cruise took place in spring 2002 off the mexican coasts on the hydrothermal vents of the East Pacific Rise on the N/O L'Atalante hosting the French ROV Victor 6000.

This site off Canada's West Coast became a pilot Marine Protected Area in 1998 under the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Subsea research technology and seagoing careers are featured along with the biology, chemistry and geology of this very unique ecosystem. Discover technical fact sheets, narrated video clips, underwater photographs, a quest game and 2-D graphic models, as well as a reference bibliography. This educational tool is suitable for schools as well as for the general public.
