Preparing deep-sea cruises on an Ifremer ship

The following steps must be followed to prepare cruises on a deep-sea vessel:

Step n°1 : The chief scientist should complete the authorization application for studies in foreign waters, if required, 6 1/2 months before the start of the cruise. "foreign waters forms"

Step n° 2 : Drawing up of a preliminary preparation file by the chief scientist 5 months before the start of the cruise. This file should be completed using the form called "Ifremer sea cruise preparation file" and sent to DMON / Brest

Step n°3 : Preparatory meeting organized by DMON / Brest approximately 4 months before the start of the cruise

Step n°4 : Completion, if required, by the chief scientist, of an authorization application for use of radioelements in sealed sources or unsealed sources or of X-ray sources to be sent to the DGSNR.

Step n°5 : Completion of final preparation file by the chief scientist, taking into account any comments made or additional information requested at the preparatory meeting. The final file must be sent 2 months before the start of the cruise, at the latest

Step n°6 : DMON  / Brest will draw up the naval operations sheet

Step n°7: 15 days before the start of the cruise the chief scientist will send in the list of people on shore to contact in case of accident

Step n°8 : before the start of the cruise, the chief scientist will send in the medical certificates  for staff who will dive in the submersible;

Special steps to take for Nautile tools : Scientists who wish to have their tools set up or manipulated by the Nautile must read the "Undersea intervention quality : Nautile's development procedure" Ref : DITI/LB/98-04 file. More especially, those tools containing metal chambers must have their hyperbaric test certificates when they arrive on board.

 

Preparing coastal cruises on an Ifremer ship

Contrary to deep-sea vessels, there is no preparation file as such, but the cruise application file is also used as a preliminary preparation file

The following steps have been set out to prepare cruises aboard an coastal vessel:

Step n°1 : Drawing up by the head of the mission of the authorization application for studies in foreign waters, if required, 6 1/2 months before the start of the cruise. "foreign waters forms"

Step n°2 : Preparatory meeting for all cruises on the same day in December of the year n -1

Step n°3 : DMON / Brest will draw up the naval operations sheet

Step n°4 : Completion, if required, by the head of the mission, of an authorization application for use of radioelements in sealed sources or unsealed sources or of X-ray sources to be sent to the DGSNR.

Step n°5 : Completion of the final preparation file by the chief scientist, 1 month before the start of the cruise
