This fisheries research vessel was commissioned in 1996.

The primarily fisheries-based missions are :

  • population ecology,
  • assessment of fished species,
  • study of resource distribution over time and space,
  • fishery and product processing techniques.

The ship carries out other types of missions:

  • physical oceanography,
  • occasional deployment of the ROV Victor 6000.

The Thalassa was built  at the "Manche Industrie Marine" shipyards (Dieppe) - LEROUX ET LOTZ NAVAL.
