Development of a real time in situ observing system in the North Atlantic ocean, by an array of Lagrangian profiling floats

GyroScope aims to contribute to the development of a European component of the global observing systems, and of  a new long-term observing capacity of ocean variability.

The GyroScope ocean observing system will use Autonomous Profiling Floats to probe the ocean interior (measure temperature and salinity).

GyroScope is a project funded by the European Commission and the participating laboratories under the thematic action "Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development"  of the Fifth Framework Programme, Key Action 2 “Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity”.

Position of ARGO floats in NE Atlantic.

The GyrosCope contribution is indicated by the yellow circles.
