Son parcours professionnelDaniel obtained his BSc (1984) from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, then worked as a marine geoscientist at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography on the seabed geology of eastern and Arctic Canada. He took a PhD (1997) at the University of Edinburgh on meltwater drainage features in the North Sea Basin (with the first application of 3D seismic data to glacial systems). He then undertook post-doctoral research at University College Dublin on the tectonic and sedimentary development of the North Atlantic continental margins. In 2004, Daniel came to Italy with an EC Marie Curie Fellowship to launch the Hydramed project, to explore the potential occurrence of gas hydrates in the Mediterranean Sea. One outcome was the joint Hermes - Hydramed Ionio 2005 campaign of the r/v OGS Explora to the Calabrian Arc accretionary prism and the discovery, with co-chief scientist Silvia Ceramicola, of the mud volcanoes that will be visited at the end of the Medeco campaign. Daniel is now examining possible gas hydrate occurrences on the Calabrian Arc (via 2D/3D seismic imaging of mud volcanoes) and on the Nile Fan (in collaboration with Jean Mascle and l'Atelier Nil). During 2007 he was a visitor at the Université Pierre & Marie Curie (courtesy of a Bourse internationale de la Ville de Paris, with Catherine Pierre). Ses centres d'intérêtLife centres around our house in the village of Santa Croce, on the (Slovenian) karst overlooking Trieste and the Adriatic, where he lives with Silvia, Oliver (the dog) and Macko (the cat).
