The Pourquoi pas ?
The Pourquoi pas ? is the last built R/V of Ifremer. 107m long,
she can handle field trips in the fields of hydrography, geosciences, physical
oceanography, chemistry and biology. She can also deal with the scientific gear of the
institute.
During a cruise, she can handle the deployment of both the Nautile and the

Both Ifremer (55%) and the navy (45%) fund the Pourquoi pas ?. Her name is meant to be a tribute to the commanding officer Charcot.

Victor 6000
It is built for under-water operations. It is more commonly called Remote Operated Vehicle
(ROV) and offers real exploration means and perspectives. The effectiveness is highly improved compare to habitable submersible.
Victor 6000 is indeed continuously operated under water for a couple of days (4-5) whilst habitable ones stay only a few
hours. |
Furthermore, many scientists can work at the same time on optical and acoustic images as well as on physico-chemical data that have been live brought up to the surface.
