This databases inventories the description of the French marine data sets or international databases of general interest, collected by the laboratories of the French scientific community. The inventory covers all disciplines. The data are management systems and access conditions depend on the source laboratories.

This catalogue represents the French contribution to EDMED (European Directory of Marine Environmental Data, MAST-CT91-0073) and the SeaDataNet/Sea-search server project with the following objectives :

The OCEANOGRAPHIC CRUISES directory gathers more than 6700 cruise summary reports. Each year, more than 100 new cruises are reported. Most of them have been carried out on board French Research Vessels, but cruises carried out in the frame of cooperation programmes with foreign institutes are also reported. The French Governmental Authorities presently in charge of the civilian Oceanographic Fleet are : IFREMER/GENAVIR, CNRS/INSU, IRD, IPEV.
