The MTP II- MATER data management structure is distributed among three Regional Data Centers, an Animation Task and an Expert Data Quality Committee. The Regional Data Centers compile, safeguard and give access to the data sets and the catalogues, making use of the local archiving facilities and their expertise in data management. They prepare the project data protocol and manuals. They provide data management services during the project implementation and later on, for further exploitation of the data. They insure technical and regional responsibilityies that are:
The Animation Task aims was created to help the circulation of information on data during the project implementation, among the project management, data management and scientific teams. Therefore it compiles and updates the cruise schedule, publishes it on internet and makes appropriate links to the regional centers catalogues and servers. The Expert Data Quality Committee, chaired by the scientific project coordinator, supervised the methods used to collect, validate and archive the data.
Data Management Methodology
To insure coherence and compatibility of all the data set released, a common protocol for data formatting (MEDATLAS Format) and checking (Quality Assurance) has been defined by the Data Management Team. The protocol includes a MATER Data Manual (Vol. 1) a data dictionary (Vol2) describing the codes, names, units and broad range values of variation for about 200 parameters.
