Projects
The major projects I am currently involved in are listed below:

SHOC Satellite Hurricane Observations Campaign (ESA):

SHOC main objective is to organize a 2 months campaign during the 2016 hurricane season in order to gather extreme wind observations from new European spaceborne sensors and additional reference data. As opposed to altimeter, scatterometer or radiometer missions, Synthetic Aperture Radar missions have a limited duty cycle and can operate in several acquisitions modes, yielding to possible conflicts between users. The primary objective of SHOC is thus to maximize Sentinel-1 acquisitions over hurricanes to feed research and development activities without critically impacting other existing services. SHOC campaign has been proposed to European Space Agency (ESA) by LOPS in the framework of ESA SEOM (Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions) study. This is a joint study with NOAA (USA), CLS (France), ODL (France), NORUT (Norway) and NUIST (China).

My main interests in this project are the new capabilities of Sentinel-1 SAR for wind measurements during extreme events.

Sentinel-1 Mission Performance Center (ESA):

Sentinel-1 Misson Performance Center aims at assessing the quality of Sentinel-1 C-SAR products up to Level-2 and gathers experts from ARESYS, BAES, NORUTS, CLS, ODL, University of Zurich and IFREMER. The Laboratoire d'Océanographie Spatiale is part of the Level-2 Experts Support Laboratories identified by ESA for Ocean products.
We collect, homogeneize and disseminate in-situ data and satellite measurements from other sensors such as scatterometers, radiometers or altimeters to provide reference measurements and assess the wind and waves quality as obtained with Sentinel-1 ESA processor.
Based on the products quality analysis, we investigate new algorithms for geophysical parameters retrieval and study ocean and atmposheric signatures in SAR ocean scenes.

My main interests in this project are the new capabilities of Sentinel-1 SAR to measure both geophysical Doppler and Normalized Radar Cross Section in Cross-polarization. It opens new perspectives to study extreme events, ocean surface current and air-sea interactions.

CFOSAT Ocean Wind & Wave Center (CNES):

CFOSAT (Chinese French Oceanographic SATellite) oceanographic mission will be the first earth observation mission precisely devoted to the monitoring of the ocean surface wind, waves and more generally to the dynamics of the ocean/atmosphere interface. CFOSAT will carry on-board two sensors: SCAT and SWIM. SCAT is a Chinese scatterometer for ocean winds. SWIM is a French wave scatterometer.
As foreseen, the launch is scheduled in spring 2018. In the meantime, several studies are conducted by both Chinese and French teams to be ready on time and to prepare scientific and technical developments. It includes the full design and implementation of the French Oceanographic Ground Segment (FROGS). Today, algorithms for geophysical products such as wave measurements are thus being developed by French teams to allow the distribution of reliable measurements as soon as possible after the launch.
In this context I am interested in the understanding of near nardir measurements at Ku Band already available thanks to TRMM and GPM missions. This work is done in collaboration with CLS (France) and NOTC (China).
